CREATING HOMES OTHERS CAN ONLY DREAM

Specializing in the design and construction of luxury custom homes and remodeling, Hughes-Edwards Builders has created award-winning projects throughout the Middle Tennessee area including Davidson, Sumner and Williamson counties.

Hughes-Edwards’ beginnings date back to 1977, when family patriarch, Gene Hughes, set out to build his own home in North Carolina. With drawing pencil in hand, Gene designed his dream house and discovered his passion. Since then, others have had Gene create their masterpieces, from cozy bungalows to sprawling estates.

In 1997, Gene partnered with his son-in-law, Bryan Edwards to form Hughes-Edwards Builders, a design-build firm, as it is known today. Gene’s son, Chris, joined the company in 2001, and, since this time, the team have a well-earned reputation as Middle Tennessee’s premier builder of custom homes, the area’s renovation specialist of choice and the 2013 Tennessean “Toast of Music City” Best Home Builder Winner.

Hughes-Edwards is a member in good standing with the National Associaton of Home Builders and the Home Builders Association of Middle Tennessee. Members of these prestigious groups have led Middle Tennessee’s home building industry in maintaining the highest standards of quality and ethics.

In addition to the HBA, Hughes-Edwards Homes is a member of the Master Custom Builders Council of TN, Hendersonville Rotary Club and the Hendersonville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Bryan Edwards, President

Bryan Edwards has a unique gift for transforming intangible ideas into tangible realities—a talent that, combined with his deep appreciation for Old World architecture, inspired him to co-found Hughes-Edwards Builders in 1997 with his late father-in-law, Gene Hughes. Today, Bryan leads the company with a focus on timeless design, precision craftsmanship, and a client-first approach. His strong foundation in finance and project development allows him to manage all aspects of the business—from initial concept through final construction—with equal parts creativity and discipline.

A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Bryan graduated from The McCallie School and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Millsaps College. He broadened his perspective and passion for classical design during a summer scholarship at St. John’s College, Oxford University, where he studied art history and Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.

Bryan began his professional career at Arthur Andersen, where he earned his CPA designation and met his wife, Sharon. He later served as Director of Development for HealthSouth Corporation’s Surgery Center Division, where he led the planning, construction, and operation of freestanding ambulatory surgery centers. This experience refined his ability to coordinate large-scale development projects and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of professionals, including architects, contractors, physicians, and attorneys.

Bryan is a Certified Green Builder, a founding member of the Master Custom Builders Council of Tennessee, and a former President of the Home Builders Association of Sumner County. He has also served on the board of the Home Builders Association of Middle Tennessee. Though no longer a practicing CPA, Bryan continues to integrate his financial acumen into every facet of his work.

A Certified Peak Performance Coach and commissioned Stephen Minister, Bryan is known for his ability to inspire and uplift those around him. He believes in living a challenge-based lifestyle and is a passionate advocate for personal growth and mental wellness. A fitness enthusiast, Bryan has completed five Country Music Half Marathons.

Chris Hughes, Project Estimator

Chris Hughes brings the discipline of a former Army Captain and a relentless commitment to excellence to his role as Project Estimator at Hughes-Edwards Builders. Known for his attention to detail and passion for “getting it right,” Chris plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless execution of each custom home project. He oversees project estimation and cost tracking while working closely with homeowners to ensure their vision is brought to life with precision and care.

A graduate of Hendersonville High School, Chris earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Tennessee, supported by an Army ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and served with distinction for four years, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain.

After completing his military service, Chris returned to his hometown to join the family business, where he now works alongside his father, brother, and brother-in-law. His leadership and strategic mindset, honed through military experience, continue to enhance operations and the client experience at Hughes-Edwards.

Chris and his wife, Scottie Nell, live in Hendersonville, Tennessee, with their two children and their German Shepherd. Deeply committed to his community and public service, Chris also serves as the TN-18th District Executive Committeeman for the Republican Party of Tennessee, where he chairs the Bylaws Committee.

In Loving Memory of Gene Hughes

Co-Founder of Hughes Edwards Builders, Mentor, Visionary
Gene Hughes was a man whose integrity, talent, and dedication laid the foundation—both literally and figuratively—for Hughes-Edwards Builders. After a distinguished 34-year career as a manager at DuPont, the nation’s leading science-based company, Gene embraced his lifelong passion for homebuilding. What began with building his own family’s Williamsburg-style country home soon evolved into a calling—one house, one client, and one dream at a time.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Gene had an innate appreciation for craftsmanship and design. He believed that every home should have a unique personality—something that reflected the heart and story of its owners. Blessed with a natural talent for drawing and a sharp eye for detail, Gene poured that vision into each custom home he built. He never settled for “good enough”; instead, he demanded the highest quality and sought out skilled craftsmen who shared his exacting standards.

In 1997, following his retirement from DuPont, Gene partnered with his son-in-law, Bryan Edwards, to establish Hughes-Edwards Builders. Together, they brought a rare blend of artistry, precision, and client-focused service to the custom home market. Gene’s belief that homes should be both beautiful and built to last continues to guide the company today.

Gene earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics from the University of South Carolina. He was a devoted husband to his wife Ruth, a proud father of three, and a loving grandfather of six. His legacy endures through the homes he built, the values he instilled, and the lives he touched.

Gene Hughes will always be remembered as a builder, a leader, and above all, a family man who made every home feel like something truly special.
