3 Ways to Transform Your Backyard Into an Idyllic Retreat

It’s one thing to have a beautiful, well-manicured yard. It’s another to have an outdoor space that you can’t wait to spend time in – one that’s more of a retreat than anything else. With a few little upgrades, you can turn your outdoor space into a spectacular paradise.Transform your outdoor space- Hughes Edwards Builders

Sit Down and Relax

It’s tough to kick back and relax if you’ve got nothing to sit on, so finding the perfect seating is essential. You’re only limited by your imagination; you can pick a colorful, curved outdoor sofa or an intricately carved, elegant bench. Maybe you prefer the rustic look of wood seating, or perhaps you’re the type of person who loves the look of a matching patio set topped with a big, shady umbrella. The key is getting seating that you’re comfortable (both mentally and physically) enjoying when the occasion arises. (Look into a hammock, too, because there really is nothing like relaxing in the shade on a warm Middle Tennessee day.)

Make a Splash

The sound of running water is calming and relaxing, so consider adding a fountain near where you’ll be sitting. Even a small tabletop fountain placed on the storage bin you use for your outdoor cushions can be the perfect addition. If that doesn’t work for you, a classic bird bath might be just right.

A Garden, a Piece of Art or Another Focal Point

Just like the interior rooms of your home, your outdoor space needs a focal point. It could be a spectacular cascade of flowers, a stone sculpture or a fire pit (did you catch our piece on adding the perfect fire pit to your outdoor space last fall?). Generally, a focal point will pull all of the outdoor elements together and create balance.
