How to Choose Driveway Pavers for Your Custom Home
It used to be that you had two choices for your driveway: asphalt or concrete.
Not so anymore.
However, the choices are a little bit overwhelming – but if you know what you need (and what you like), you already have a head start.
Concrete Pavers
Concrete pavers are one step away from an ordinary, big-block driveway. There are two types: interlocking and architectural slab. Typically, architectural slab pavers are more attractive than their interlocking cousins are. They usually resemble stone or brick.
Clay/Brick Pavers
Clay pavers can resemble bricks, but they can also feature customized shapes and sizes. These pavers are known for resisting stains, and they don’t need to be cleaned as often as concrete pavers do. They’re also ecologically friendly and have a fairly long life span. While bricks can chip or crack with time, they don’t erode the same way concrete pavers do.
Natural Stone Pavers
Natural stone is a popular choice, but it’s far more costly than concrete, clay or brick pavers are. It typically provides an uneven terrain, but it’s sturdy and durable, and you usually don’t have to worry about weather damaging natural stones.
Permeable Pavement
The latest trend in driveway design is permeable pavement. It uses a wide range of sustainable materials, asphalt and concrete. The term permeable pavement really refers to a method of paving that lets rainwater seep into the ground, keeping it out of storm drains and feeding your lawn in the process.
For the most part, permeable pavement can even filter out toxins that would ordinarily run off your driveway.
